Tonight saw the seventh edition of the FIM Gala Ceremony take place, this time inside the famous Tempodrom, Berlin. Almost six hundred invited guests packed into the iconic venue in the historic city to enjoy a very special evening that rewarded the exploits of the World's best motorcycle riders.

Streamed live on the FIM Gala website, a host of motorcycling legends were on hand to present the 2016 FIM World Champions with their respective awards, whilst also being honoured themselves for their achievements within two-wheel sport.

FIM Gala Ceremony hosts Matthew Roberts, Lisa Leyland and Gavin Emmett shared their passion and knowledge of motorcycle racing as they steered the audience through an evening to be remembered.

Legends such as Per-Olof Serenius, Tomo Igata, Gilles Burgat, Heinz Kinigadner, Gualtiero Brissoni, Jacky Vimond and Luigi Taveri were joined on stage by the likes of Marc Marquez, Johann Zarco, Brad Binder, Ryan Dungey, Jonathan Rea, Matthew Phillips, Toni Bou, Tim Gajser, Greg Hancock, and many more talented riders. The Women’s side of the sport was once again strongly represented by Emma Bristow, Livia Lancelot and Kirsi Kainulainen.

In addition to the many FIM World Champions who stepped forward to receive their awards, the FIM also made four special presentations. These included the FIM Fair Play Trophy presented to Laia Sanz; the FIM Environmental Award, which was won by the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya; the FIM Road Safety Award that was handed over to the Federazione Motociclistica Italiana (FMI); and finally the winner of FIM Woman in Motorcycling Award was announced as AMA Get Women Riding Campaign – USA.

Speaking after the close of the ceremony FIM President Vito Ippolito stated: “It was a great honour to host the seventh edition of the FIM Gala Ceremony in the wonderful city of Berlin, and for the first time in Germany. The Tempodrom was a wonderful place to celebrate all our 2016 FIM World Champions and to enjoy this special moment with so many people. I want to thank the riders, teams and the whole motorcycling family for being here tonight and for supporting this very important event when once again we have shown to the World the great-spirit that continues to exist within motorcycling.

STARS OF THE RED CARPET

Invited guests, FIM World Champions past and present, FIM Legends plus their respective partners and entourages have just made their way down the red carpet into the Tempodrom ready to take their places inside this impressive venue for the seventh edition of the FIM Gala Ceremony.

THE FIM GALA IS ALMOST GO

Last night saw the initial ‘practice session’ take place for this evening’s FIM Gala Ceremony inside the Tempodrom that is situated in the southern district of the historic city of Berlin. The technical run through allowed British hosts Matthew Roberts, Lisa Leyland and Gavin Emmett to finalise their scripts and to acquaint themselves with the surroundings of this impressive venue.

With the fine adjustments having now been made, the cast will conduct a final rehearsal this morning to ensure that everything will be perfect for tonight’s performance when the stars of the show – The FIM World Champions and FIM Legends – step out on stage to collect their respective awards.

Better known for their work on the small screen inside the MotoGP paddock Matthew Roberts and Gavin Emmett will be joined by Lisa Leyland who herself has become the visage and voice of MXGP over more recent seasons.

Having now arrived in Berlin the British trio are now working on adding the final touches to their script ahead of Sunday’s FIM Gala Ceremony rehearsal.

A management team fully committed to the FIM Ride Green philosophy

Organising a large event such as the FIM General Assembly and the Annual Gala ceremony is not an easy task. It has a big impact over a short period and requires considerable resources (water, energy, transport, food, paper etc.). The FIM management team has considered this impact and is committed to organising the event so as to reduce as much as possible the negative environmental footprint produced while taking into account the impact on society and the economy.

THE VENUES
The Sheraton Hotel in Berlin has a clear policy of sustainability. It complies with local and international environmental regulations and focuses on aspects such as reducing the carbon footprint, reducing power consumption, a sustainable supply chain, waste separation, preference for local suppliers.

The Tempodrom Berlin, where all the champions and personalities will meet for the Gala Ceremony this year, is a venue that focuses on climate protection and children’s welfare.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES
Most of the food and beverages have been chosen with local suppliers and local menus both for the FIM meetings and for the GALA dinner. Water and other drinks will be served in glass bottles, avoiding the use of plastic.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
The venues chosen have separation and recycling policies according to local regulations.

TRANSPORTATION AND OFFSET, HELPING COMMUNITIES
The FIM aims to use the most sustainable transport solutions and in this case we are organising collective transportation for the shuttles to and from the airports. The Hotels proposed are within walking distance from the venues.

However, we understand that a totally carbon free event is not possible. The FIM will therefore offset the environmental impact of its General Assembly and Gala Ceremony by supporting the following projects:

Project Mirador Honduras (Gold Standard certified) is a project that, with the construction of efficient cooking stoves in Honduras, offsets 38K TCO2E every year and has reduced the demand for firewood by 50%.

Kariba Project (Verified carbon standard and CCB Standards) is a Forest management project in Zimbabwe aimed and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for poor communities. By offsetting the emissions generated by our annual activity we will help with health care centres, reforestation, and conservation of the natural habitat amongst others.

SOURCING LOCALLY
We want to encourage local prosperity and for that reason, under our sustainability policy, we prefer to source locally: technical companies, catering, shuttles and hostess agency, TV production, etc.

PAPERLESS POLICY
From the badges to the SMS campaign for reducing printing and paper consumption, we are working to reduce the amount of documents printed!

Tempodrom Berlin to host the FIM Gala!

Germany’s capital city Berlin will host the seventh edition of the FIM Gala Ceremony on Sunday 27 November 2016. Now established as the most glamorous event in the international motorcycle calendar, the 2016 FIM Gala Ceremony will welcome thirty-four FIM World Champions, eleven FIM Team World Champions, seven FIM Legends and three special prize winners to the impressive Tempodrom venue, close to the famous Potsdamer Platz where remnants of the old station façade can still be seen.

Five hundred guests will gather inside the Tempodrom Berlin to celebrate this unique occasion. This year, the FIM Gala Ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place in the same space, followed by the traditional after-event party.

The day before the ceremony, on Saturday 26 November, the nearby Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade will host the 2016 FIM General Assembly. Here delegates from the FIM’s one hundred and twelve affiliated National Motorcycle Federations will take part in the day-long conference.

A close partnership between the FIM, the City of Berlin and the German Motorcycling Federation (DMSB) has created the perfect platform from which to ensure yet another successful edition of the FIM Gala Ceremony, the FIM General Assembly and other associated activities that will take place over the weekend in this great and historic city.

Reinforcing its commitment to delivering sustainable and responsible events, the FIM will ensure that the Gala Ceremony is managed so as to engage with local suppliers wherever practicable in order to reduce the need for unnecessary transportation of goods and services.

FIM Gala 2016 to take place in Berlin!

The 2016 edition of the Gala Ceremony of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) will take place in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday 27 November 2016.

The two-wheel community will gather there to celebrate and applaud the achievements of motorcycling’s finest and fastest riders. This season’s wide array of FIM Champions will take to the stage alongside invited legends from the various disciplines for an award ceremony that will be attended by key industry stakeholders and media.

The Gala Ceremony will follow the FIM General Assembly on Saturday 26 November 2016, in which delegates representing the 113 National Motorcycling Federations from around the world will be taking part.

Berlin is the capital of Germany and one of its 16 states. With a population of 3.5 million people, it is the second most populated city in the European Union. Located in the north-east of the country on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region.

FIM President Vito Ippolito said: “I am truly happy to announce that the FIM Gala Ceremony will come to Berlin this year. The FIM Gala Ceremony is very important for the FIM because it closes the sporting season in a delightful way by congratulating the world champions of all the motorcycling disciplines. Berlin is a beautiful city and will offer an exceptional backdrop for the annual gathering of the World of Motorcycling.”
