2024 FIM MOTO2 GRAND PRIX WORLD CHAMPION
Japan’s Ai Ogura made history this season as the first graduate of the Asia Talent Cup to progress all the way to winning an FIM gold medal when he raced to the 2024 FIM Moto2™Grand Prix World Championship. The twenty-three-year-old gave his nation its first FIM Grand Prix World Championship title since Hiroshi Aoyama in 2009 and the man from just outside Tokyo did it in style, clinching the crown at the Grand Prix of Thailand at the end of October with two rounds still to run. Following three years contesting the Moto3™class with his best ranking of third achieved in his last year in 2020, Ogura moved up to Moto2™ and was second in 2022 before a pre-season wrist injury derailed his title challenge last year. However, true champions rise above adversity and this year he backed up a solid start with his opening victory of the season in Spain at round six. From here his momentum continued to build and further victories in the Netherlands and San Marino put him in control through races in Italy, Indonesia, Japanand Australia and he arrived in Thailand with a sixty-five-point lead before putting the title out of reach.
