2021 FIM MOTO3 JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION
THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK!
Widely regarded as the proving ground for future champions since the series’ inception in 2012, the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship is the place to spot future stars – and no-one shone brighter this year than Dani Holgado.
The Spanish sixteen-year-old has led the championship from the get-go and in the process he has written his way into the history books as the first-ever road-racing World Champion for the GASGAS marque.
In just his eighth season of racing, Holgado kicked off his 2021 campaign on top with a run of three victories.
His first came in Estoril in Portugal in late-April and he backed this up with a double win on home turf at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia in May.
The following month he tasted defeat for the first time with an opening-race fourth in Barcelona, but he was back in command in race two to extend his championship lead.
The series returned to Portugal’s Algarve region for round four at the start of July where Holgado added yet another podium finish with a sold second and at the end of the month he was third at Aragon in Spain to cement his position at the front of the field.
With the championship winding down, Holgado had his worst finish of the season so far with fifth in the opening race at Jerez, but he bounced back with third in the second race.
Even a retirement at the penultimate round in San Marino in September could not prevent him from lifting the title with a ninth-placed finish in the first race at Valencia two months later.
