2020 FIM SPEEDWAY UNDER 21 WORLD CHAMPION
BRINGING THE THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER
A multi-time national youth speedway champion back in his native Australia, Lidsey began the European stage of his career in Poland in 2018 before shifting his focus to the UK the following year.
After gaining a permanent wildcard ride in the 2019 FIM Speedway Under 21 World Championship, he ended the season ranked seventh and this year it all came together for him in Pardubice in the Czech Republic at the start of October when he put in a virtually faultless performance.
His sole defeat came in a qualifying race before he topped his semi-final and then comfortably won the final from Poland’s Dominik Kubera – who had beaten him earlier in the day – to take gold and join an exclusive club of FIM Speedway World Champions from Australia that also includes his mentor Leigh Adams, Jason Crump and Darcy Ward.
A rider who likes to keep busy and who is also not afraid to travel, this year Lidsey had rides lined up with teams in Poland, the UK and Denmark – although events in the latter two countries were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. He also retained his Australian Under 21 Speedway Championship, helped his country to fifth in the FIM Speedway of Nations and finished fifth in the Australian national series to truly make it a season to remember for the wonder from Down Under.
