2019 FIM MOTO3 JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION
JEREMY’S JOY AT FINAL ROUND
Jeremy Alcoba (Husqvarna) wrapped up the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship with a race to spare in the final round at Valencia, after a season of unerring consistency that saw him finish each of the first eleven races of the season inside the top six positions, including nine podiums.
The first half of the season had been wide open, with five different riders – Barry Baltus (KTM), Yuki Kunii (Honda), Ryusei Yamanaka (Honda), Carlos Tatay (KTM) and finally Alcoba – all taking wins from the first six races. Alcoba’s first victory in Barcelona was his third consecutive podium and he followed up with three more before taking another win at Albacete to set up his title shot in Valencia.
A third win of the season in the opening race of the weekend secured the title for Alcoba, whilst Tatay took victory in the second race to secure second in the championship. Meanwhile, Xavi Artigas (Honda) – who became the sixth different winner of the season in the fifth round at Aragón – completed an all-Spanish championship podium by just three points from Belgium’s Baltus.
Alcoba, who began riding motorcycles when he was three years old and raced minibikes from the age of six, will step up to the FIM Moto3 World Championship in 2020 after also impressing with a handful of Grand Prix appearances over the past two seasons, including a points-scoring finish at Silverstone in 2019.
