Extended this year for the first time to a three-round series, since its elevation from FIM World Cup status in 2004 the FIM Snowcross World Championship has always been fought out in Europe and, unsurprisingly, mostly in Scandinavia.
However, this all changed in 2024 with the opening round taking place in Kayseri-Erciyes in central Türkiye in early March followed by April dates in Joensuu in Finland and Kirkenes in Norway, the venue for last season’s single championship event.
Attempting to become only the second champion from the USA, Jesse Kirchmeyer–Polaris won the opening race of the championship on the slopes of Mount Erciyes, but Norway’s Magnus Reiten–Lynx struck back in race two and this, coupled with his second-place finish in race one, gave him the overall.
When the series moved north to Finland the following month, home rider and defending champion Aki Pihlaja–Lynx, who missed the opening round, took the overall with Reiten running three-six to Kirchmeyer’s five-two which left the pair tied for the lead with just one round to run.
Less than one week later in the north-east of Norway, Reiten–who was fourth last year–twice finished second behind Pihlaja to clinch the title.
