Verzeroli got his campaign under way with solid if unspectacular fourth and second places at the opening roundat Fafe in Portugal, but just one week later–with the series remaining in Portugal following a move east to Valpaços–he fired a clear warning shot with a double win that gave him theearly series lead.
He slipped to seventh on day two in Romania after taking second on the opening day, but he was back on top at his home round at Bettola at the end of June with one-two finishes before giving himself a late birthday present with a dominant double win in mid-Julyat Gelnica in Slovakia.
As his title rivals struggled to match his consistency, Verzeroli headed to Rhayader in Wales for round six at the beginning of August with the title within his reach and after racing to second on the opening day he wrapped up the crown one round early with his sixth win ofthe season.
